What are Fastbraces®?

Fastbraces® is a fast, more affordable way to straighten teeth. Using technological features, the system is able to correct a variety of orthodontic problems in just a few months. The system is simple, elegant and able to handle more complex cases than many of the short term orthodontic systems available today. At Smileworks, we love educating our patients. Here are a few FAQs to bring you up to speed on the system that’s in our opinion the best for most patients.

Can Fastbraces® fix your smile faster than traditional braces?

The name ‘Fastbraces®’ is misleading because teeth do not move any faster no matter what wire, brackets or types of force you apply to them. Tooth movement is a biological process and there is a great deal of literature that maintains there is a maximum biologically determined speed at which teeth can move. The reason Fastrbraces® claim to move teeth faster is because the cases that general dentists and orthodontists choose for the treatment can be completed in less time.

There is a type of braces called Short Term Orthodontics (STO) that is designed to be used by general dentists and is also endorsed by specialist orthodontists. If your case requires complex teeth straightening or an adjustment of the way your teeth meet (your bite) then it’s advisable that you see an orthodontist for your treatment. Here at Smileworks our specialist orthodontist is Dr Laurence Masters. He treats complex cases and his tools and techniques are extremely wide ranging.

Hadn't been to a dentist in years and my teeth were my biggest insecurity. Went to smileworks with the intention of wanting some removed and getting some implants ti improve smile - instead Eduardo nicely persuaded me to get braces instead and... stopped me from making the awful decision to get turkey teeth which was the best decision! My teeth are now perfectly straight and I didn't think that would of been possible with how messed up they were! I’ve always had a great experience at Smileworks. I’ve been visiting since 2019 after years of avoiding the dentist. I would now never go anywhere else, they aren’t just great dentists or wonderful hygienists, I feel like they are thoughtful and... caring people. I spent years dreading (and avoiding the dentist) but life is too short for this and I now realise how important your dental health is. I had braces and composite bonding done at Smileworks years ago and the effect it had on my confidence after years of hating my teeth was incredible! I should have done it years ago and if you’re reading this wondering whether to book in, I would 100% recommend it.I recently booked an emergency appointment due to throbbing pain in my back tooth. I went and had an X-Ray and an abscess was found. I had treatment on the area but unfortunately the abscess was stubborn and I still had pain afterwards. I called again a few days later and they booked me in again (no cost) and I saw Ismail who repeated the procedure and finally shifted it! The relief I felt after being in the worst pain ever after 2 weeks was incredible! He was so patient and like every member of staff I have encountered at Smileworks, so open and honest and I felt like he genuinely wanted to help me. I originally went in wanting the tooth taken out and he explained he could do that but it would have certain negative effects. I appreciated his knowledge and honesty so much and after spending weeks in pain it was such a relief to feel better, literally as soon as the anaesthetic wore off I knew it was finally gone. Thank you Ismail!I had a follow up appointment today with hygienist Emma who was so thorough and explained everything about the process along the way. She clearly explained next steps to me without sounding patronising, I felt she just really wanted to help. She excelled with not just the procedure but also the customer service.Big thank you to everyone at Smileworks, from the reception staff who are always so welcoming despite being on the front line with customers all day (been there, done that, it’s not easy!) Thank you Eduardo!... I had been wanting orthodontic treatment for some time and in April 2022 I decided to go ahead with Smileworks after a consultation with Eduardo.Before starting the Invisalign in August 2022 I had tooth extractions and a... filling replaced by Eduardo. The treatment and aftercare were brilliant and I felt reassured to be continuing with the Invisalign.The comprehensive Invisalign package is so so SO worth it for the refinements. I have had a number of refinements to perfect everything and I'm due to complete in October 2024. I have had traditional train track braces when I was a teenager and the Invisalign is so much better; it's comfortable to wear and good to see progress as you change trays each week... In the time I've had Invisalign, Eduardo and the Smileworks team (Kayleigh and Rebecca - thank you for amazing cleaning!), were really accommodating for me to have a short break from further Invisalign treatment whilst I had teeth whitening for my wedding! Treatment resumed swiftly after and I really appreciate that the team coordinated things for this to happen.Eduardo has always been professional, knowledgeable and always explains what the plans are. I saw Delia for a hygienist appointment. I received an exceptional treatment, she thoroughly explained what she was going to do and was gentle, but thorough all the way through. At the end of the session she explained how to use the interdental... brushes properly and gave me advice on how to maintain a good oral hygiene. I had had gum bleeds before the treatment and after they stopped straight away. I recommend her services wholeheartedly.I've just had an appointment with Eduardo and Martyn and I couldn't be happier. How does Fastbraces® work?

Traditional orthodontic systems work by moving the teeth in two stages: Firstly, the crown of the tooth is moved into the correct position. Then, the roots are moved to align with them. Although this works, it can take many years to complete. Watch this video for more great information on the benefits of Fastbraces®. It’s American and a bit cheesy but the dentists and orthodontists here at Smileworks Liverpool absolutely love it and we show it to all our Fastbraces® patients. An Orthodontist would say that these results can be achieved with any braces system This may be true but this system is not for orthodontists, it’s for general dentists. And as a short term orthodontic treatment we feel it lives up to the claims made on the website and by the fastbraces team.

Fastbraces® uses triangular brackets and square wire to move the crown and root simultaneously. Because the whole tooth moves through the jaw, patients can get marvellous results within 3 months to one year. Some even see results faster!

Is Fastbraces® safe? Does it hurt?

Fastbraces® cases require less force to move the teeth than some other systems. This limits the impact on gums while protecting soft tissues. For this reason, Fastbraces is safe and comfortable. It certainly doesn’t hurt although some patients feel some discomfort when their fastbraces have been on for a short amount of time. They’ll typically prefer to eat soft foods for a few weeks until they get used to the braces. So no, it definitely isn’t painful!

What is a retainer? Do I have to wear one?

By moving crowns and roots at the same time, we’re able to quickly straighten your smile. Because teeth love moving around naturally, retainers are needed to keep teeth in their new position. These clear plastic gum-shields only need to be worn 15-20 minutes a day. Unlike most retainers that need to be worn 24/7. If you get Fastbraces® at Smileworks, we’ll give you Enlighten whitening gel. Put it in your retainer and you can look forward to teeth that are not only straight but beautifully white too.

What’s good about Fastbraces®?

Unlike some traditional braces, Fastbraces® helps preserve our natural bite, creating a more aesthetically pleasing look.

The technology works with our teeth and gums, rather than against them.

By using one wire and triangular brackets, teeth are allowed to move into position giving supreme results.

Some traditional procedures need you to keep retainers in 24/7, but Fastbraces® only needs 15-20 minutes daily.

- Tooth extraction is rarely needed. Traditional braces often need tooth extraction to make space for movement, but Fastbraces ® is able to move crown and root simultaneously to realign effectively without.

What happens once I get to Smileworks?

With your initial consultation with Dr Rowland-Warmann, you’ll be on your way to beautiful, straight teeth. An experienced dentist, she was one of the first to offer Fastbraces® treatment in the UK. After consultation, we’ll take x-rays and put together a comprehensive treatment plan, giving you all the information you need – personalised for your smile! Following this, the brackets are put on and you’ll occasionally come back to Smileworks to make sure everything is going to plan. After teeth are realigned (normally 3 months to one year later), we’ll make you a retainer and start whitening your teeth with Enlighten gel.
